What is Medical Massage?
The fundamental distinction between medical massage and other forms of bodywork is the fact that medical massage is performed with specific techniques designed and proven to reduce scar tissue, re-lengthen musculature and rehabilitate posture and myo-fascial tissues. Most postural distortions and myo-fascial syndromes come from hypertonic (tight) muscles pulling bones out of alignment. Once scar tissue is reduced, and the myo-fascial tissue released, the bone(s) and joints have an opportunity to work in correct alignment with each other. Spinal bones stand a much better chance remaining in place, thus reducing the number of Chiropractic adjustments needed. Medical massage is a method of treatment with same goals as other medical therapies.
Medical massage has been scientifically proven to be extremely effective in the improvement if not curing of myo-fascial pain syndromes. The Russians and Germans are leaders in this field, discovery such incredible benefits as new cells being stimulated to grow when tissue is compressed, immune system detoxification stimulated, decreased healing time of tissues, scar tissue reduction to increase range of motion, and on and on.
At Different Strokes we begin with a complete postural analysis to determine musculature deviations that cause pain syndromes. We will take a front and side picture so you can see where you are “torqued” and then draw out your personal “body map” to guide you toward goals of muscular release. Next, is your bodywork session… combining many different techniques of massage specially designed to release your soft tissues at the level and rate of your personal tolerance. Often, several sessions are needed in order to achieve long lasting results. You will also be advised as to stretching and exercises to support your rehabilitation.
We also offer Reflexology, and Chair massage on a walk-in basis.
Biofrequency sessions may be added to your massage session to balance your tension’s frequencies while they are massaged away.
